Each 2020 Boettcher Scholarship finalist was asked to identify one teacher who impacted their lives and made significant contributions to their growth and education. Our 2020 Boettcher Scholarship finalist Benisa Ellis chose Mrs. Renee Loflin as their teacher nominee in recognition of Mrs. Loflin’s passion for the profession and dedication to their students. In addition to a plaque, the recipients of the Teacher Recognition Award will receive a $500 grant, which they may use toward an educational program, professional development, or project to benefit students at our school. Mrs. Loflin, this award is the Boettcher Foundation’s way of telling you that they appreciate your commitment to your students and to our community. We are incredibly proud to have you as a teacher in our school community and thank you for inspiring not only your students but also setting a standard of excellence for others in your profession.

SHS Students:
As we embark on a new model of instruction, I would like you to remember who we are. WE ARE LONGHORNS!
Being a lifetime Longhorn myself, there is a certain amount of pride that statement conjures up. It means we overcome obstacles, we will persevere in the face of adversity, and together as a community we will prevail. WE ARE LONGHORNS!
Remote learning will come with obstacles for us. Together we will find solutions. Many of these problems are not even known at this time, but we will solve them by working together, by communicating our needs, and by refusing to allow a difficult situation to break us. WE ARE LONGHORNS!
At the end of this phase of learning each of you will be in one of two categories. One group will emerge brighter, more independent, more responsible, and further down the road at achieving your goals in life. The other group will have an excuse for failing. Each of those excuses are nothing more than an obstacle you choose not to overcome. Together, we are capable of prevailing, regardless of the obstacles. WE ARE LONGHORNS!
This time of your life is temporary. We are here to support you. Communicate your needs with us and we can emerge from this in a few weeks better for the experience. WE ARE LONGHORNS!
I look forward to seeing every one of you today!
Top Elementary February AR Readers. Great job, boys & girls!!

COVID 19 Update
In an effort to help slow the spread of COVID 19, Springfield School District will be closed to students from March 23rd to April 3rd. Home based/online instruction will be delivered beginning March 24th. Students can expect instructions from their teachers by the end of the day March 23rd. During this 2-week closure, all activities and events are cancelled. Please be advised, as more information becomes available the time period could be extended.
Springfield CMAS Testing Update...
Spring CMAS testing is currently on hold. Springfield School District had petitioned for an early testing window to open on March 23, 2020. However, the Colorado Department of Education has made the determination that the testing window will not open. At this time it is uncertain when students at Springfield Schools will be tested in English/Language Arts, Mathematics, and Science. All Social Studies state tests have been cancelled for the 2020 testing session. SAT and PSAT testing is also suspended at this time. As the SAT is extraordinarily important for students across the state, for scholarship and college application purposes, CDE is currently working with CollegeBoard to ensure that opportunities for testing will be made available for our students. The schedule on the website will be updated as soon as information is made available. If you have any further questions about testing, please contact Ginger Walker, District Assessment Coordinator, at ginger.walker@spre4.org, Kyle Lasley, High School Principal, at kyle.lasley@spre4.org, or Richard Hargrove, Superintendent, at richard.hargrove@spre4.org.
Due to the COVID-19, Vilas School District is cancelling the County Spelling Bee scheduled for April 2nd and the JH Knowledgebowl scheduled for March 27th. We apologize for the inconvenience this may cause.
The Springfield School District RE-4 is actively monitoring the Corona Virus Disease (COVID-19) situation and its impacts both locally and statewide. Please note: We will update information as official decisions are made. Any community information received from other sources should not be considered official Springfield School District RE-4 information. The situation is rapidly evolving and we continue to receive and monitor information from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) as well as information from the Governor’s Office and Department of Education. Our plan is to continue to monitor and follow current and updated orders and to focus on cleaning and disinfecting during our regularly scheduled spring break. Currently, CHSAA has cancelled all activities, including athletic practices through April 6th, 2020. In line with these decisions, we have cancelled all before or after school facility use of buildings by the community and any before or after school district related activities until April 6th ,2020. We will re-evaluate these decisions as appropriate. It is important to note that there is potential and probability for school closure. As of today, March 13, 2020, school is expected to resume Monday March 23, 2020 at the conclusion of our scheduled spring break. We will continue to work diligently behind the scenes to ensure that if closures occur, we have plans in place. We will continue to provide updates when they are available.
Thank you for your support!
