The 4th graders have been learning about civic engagement and local government. Each class wrote a letter to the Mayor, Tyler Gibson. These letters covered topics including community engagement, town events, and town beautification. Today Mayor Gibson visited the class and spoke about his role and experience as Mayor. He was accompanied by town manager, Tammy Newman. They explained the importance of municipal government and how a town works to address public concerns. Thank you to Mr. Gibson and Mrs. Newman for taking time to listen to the 4th grade class and help them learn about the town of Springfield and local government!
Time Change: The high school baseball game scheduled for today vs Holly has been moved to 5:00 p.m. There will be one varsity game with a possibility of a J.V. game if light and weather permits.
FCCLA Takes State
Eighteen Springfield High School students took the FCCLA State Conference by storm. They brought home four gold awards, three silver and two bronze awards. Those team events that will advance to Nationals are Aliya Cohoon and Karina Garcia with their ‘Focus on Children’ event and a ‘Sustainability Challenge Event’ created by team members Clarissa Cooper, Joy West and Valerie Woller. Freshmen Jaylee Mort and Dakota Reid entered their project ‘The Care Closet’ in the Chapter Service category. The seven FCCLA members will compete in Seattle, Washington at the National Family, Career and Leaders of America National Conference in late June.
